Description
Ca. 15th-16th century A.D. BI tanka (17 mm, 9.69 g). Crude Arabic legends on both sides / Goron & Goenka, The Coins of the Indian Sultanates, MU-19. Scarce and choice. Very fine.
This coin is from a long series of progressively debased billon and copper tankas, which have typological links with the coinage of the later Delhi Sultans, such as the Sayyids and Lodis. Â This series is tentatively attributed to the Hindu dynasty of the Tomaras, who ruled Gwalior in the 15th and 16th centuries.
