CONSTANTINE I. 307-337 AD. Æ Follis (22mm - 2.93 g). Arles mint. CONSTAN-TINVS AVG, laureate head right / VIRTV-S AVGG, camp-gate with no doors and four turrets; SA RL. RIC -; LRBC -. VF, brown patina. Overstruck on a IOVI CONSERVATORI type of Licinius II.

Another unusual coin from the Beast Collection. This is very similar to RIC 291 except the mint mark lacks the crescent even though there is clearly space for the crescent on the die. So is this an unrecorded mint mark, a die not properly engraved or an ancient imitation struck over an official issue?.
