Lot 233: ANTIQUITIES, Moche crayfish bottle

A choice Moche II crustacean bottle from Peru, c. 100 - 200 AD. This early example of a Fineline style vessel is 7” high and is decorated with a pair of large crayfish, painted in red over the cream slip. Early Andean cultures engaged in aquaculture, farming various types of crustaceans in canals and created effigies and painted vessels to chronicle the results. In near perfect condition, with good dendrites. Ex Espinoza estate. Value range: $650 - $850
