Lot 239: ANTIQUITIES, Chimu whistle bottle

An excellent Chimu zoomorphic whistle vessel from Peru, c. 1100 – 1450 AD. This choice double-chambered example is 8-3/4” long, 6-1/2” high and depicts a superbly detailed rodent. The face is expressive, rows of sharp teeth are visible in the open mouth and the legs are molded in relief along the front of the chamber, which is designed to look like he might be wearing a mantle or cape. In excellent condition, with mineral deposits and trails, as well as good tone on the whistle hidden inside the head. Ex Espinoza estate. Value range $550 - $750
