Lot 254: ANTIQUITIES. A Pair of 2 Attractive Daunian Painted Plates

A lot of 2 nice Daunian plates, Italic, c. 5th - 4th Century BC, well thrown, the first coated with a pale yellow slip and painted with a vine motif in black, Dia: 6 5/8” (16.8 cm), the second decorated with an orange slip and a central red disk surrounded by white, dark brown and red bands of varying width. Dia: 6 5/8” (16.8 cm). Both intact and each with two holes for suspension near the rim. The second with a minor rim chip. Ex Orange County private collection. Value Range $350 - $450.
