Description

ILKHANS of PERSIA, Sultan Mohamad Khodabandeh "Uljaytu". (1304-1316 AD). Æ Folus (1.40 gm; 19 mm). Obverse: Al..(Sultan?-obliterated) Mohamad, Adl (Justice), reverse: duck walking left with a smaller bird or animal (possibly young duck) on the back. Extremely rare design. Duck appears in many Sasanian motifs for seals and fabrics, Uljaytu was highly interested in revival of many Sasanian traditions during his reign and this design might be one of them. No mint or date, possibly unpublished. Nice original find patina. Choice VF. Extremely rare.
