France. Gambling Token. ND (Napoleonic period, ca. 1800-1815). AR jeton (30 mm, 11.84 g, 12 h). F. Gayrard and D. de Puyamaurin, engravers. HEUR ET MALHEUR, janiform heads of Good Luck (wreathed) and Bad Luck (with snakes in hair); in exergue, GAYRARD F. / Fortuna, winged an blindfolded, walking left, emptying cornucopiae, wheel at her feet, and leading Cupid, who is also blindfolded and using his bow as a cane, by the hand; on the groundline, GAYRARD F.; in exegure, to moles left above DE PUY(AM)AURIN D.. Toned. Choice extremely fine.
