Description

JULIA DOMNA, wife of Septimius Severus. Augusta, 193-217 AD. AR Denarius (19mm - 3.42 g). Rome mint. IVLIA AVGVSTA, draped bust right / FORTVNAE FELICI, Fortuna standing left, holding reversed cornucopia in right hand, left arm resting on rudder set on globe. RIC IV 552 note; BMCRE 24 note; RSC 55a (unpriced). VF.

Evidently a very rare variety. The normal type has Fortuna resting her left arm on an inverted rudder. Both RIC and BMC refer to the same specimen and there are none listed in Reka Devnia though it's possible they weren't distinguished from the regular type.
