SASANIAN KINGS. Valkash (484-488 AD). Silver Drachm (4.04 gm; 28 mm). "AS" for Asuristan or Aspanvar mint. Crowned bust of Valkash turning right with shoulder flame within a standard double ring, reverse, fire altar with attendants in standard prayer type, mint abbreviation "AS" for Asuristan or Aspanvar or Aspahan to the right, no name "Valkash" to the left. SNS type Ib/1b (pl. 100, 4-9); Göbl type I/1; Mochiri 553; Paruck 365; Saeedi 255; Sunrise 954var. Lovely strike on a nice broad flan. Choice aEF. Nice old-cabinet toning. Comes with Dmitri Markov's old tag.
