CA-M[V], grain ear lacking central stalk / CVN, horse with dashes for mane rearing right; above, branch and pellet. ABC 2816; Van Arsdell 2015; BMC 1846-8; SCBC 294. Scarce. Good very fine.

Cuobelinus was the greatest of all late Iron Age kings of Britain, and united the tribes of the Catuvellauni and Trinovantes after conquering the latter. He seems to have conquered Camulodunum and been quite proud of the achievement: no fewer than 44 of the 75 coin types he issued have the name inscribed on them, as does the coin offered here.
