Mysia, Lampsakos. Ca. 190-85 B.C. Æ (20 mm, 4.17 g, 11 h). ΛΑΜ, head of Priapos right, wreathed with ivy / [Ψ]-A, kantharos. SNG BN 1249. Very rare. Dark gray-green patina, overstruck. Very fine.
From the Expatriate Collection.
We sold this coin in Triskeles 21, but there it was mistakenly attributed to Pharos. It is not an easy coin to identify, and it shares the same types as the coinage from Pharos. While the cataloguer is very familiar with most Greek issues, this one escaped him, as it is quite rare. It is from Lampsakos in Mysia, and is now correctly identified, and is the sister of this coin: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=2560180. Interestingly, the ethnic is split between the obverse and reverse on this coin.
