Description

LICINIUS I. 308-324 AD. Æ Follis (20mm - 3.09 g). Imitative Issue, copying Heraclea. IMP LICI-NIVS AVG, laureate and mantled bust left, holding mappa in right hand, globe and scepter in left / PROVIDEN-TIAE AVGG (all retrograde), camp-gate with no doors and three turrets; HTE. Cf. RIC VII 15. VF, mostly brown patina with some silvering.

From the Zachary "Beast" Beasley Collection of Camp Gates.

This specimen is of convincingly good style with much silvering remaining. This could have easily passed as an authentic mint product had the celator not engraved the entire reverse retrograde.
