AUCTION: Sale 282 - US Sale

Description
A superb Lambayeque (Sican) molded vessel from Peru, c. 700 - 1300 AD. This beautifully executed bottle is 6-1/2" high and is decorated with combat scenes. Each side depicts a helmeted warrior, armed with club and shield, holding a flaming torch in his right hand. The tumi shaped ornament on his helmet indicates that he is engaged in ritual combat, perhaps with a supernatural being. The spout of the vessel is a finely detailed head. Made from buff terra cotta and covered with a cream slip. Intact. An excellent example of this type. Ex Espinoza estate.
