Description

An early Moche figural jar from Peru, c. 200 – 400 AD. This rare example is 5-3/4" high and shows earlier Salinar influence. The arms are molded in relief, the perforated ears serve as suspension loops and cream pigment is used to create his striped mantle, necklace and headdress. Good mineral deposits. Cf. Sackler Art of the Andes, page 164. Ex Sarmiento collection.
