Description

A choice Maya “poison bottle” from Guatemala, ca. 400 – 800 AD. Although popularly known as poison bottles, as some are found to contain cinnabar (highly toxic mercury sulfide), many were in fact used to store snuff. This fine creamware Tiquisate example is 2-1/2” high and depicts a stern-faced man, with the elongated spout forming his headdress. Superbly detailed, good mineral deposits, perfect. Ex Khan collection.
