Lot 397: ANTIQUITIES, Chavin stone mirror
AUCTION: Sale 282 - US Sale
- Starting Bid: $250
- 0 Bid(s)
Description
A superb Early Chavin stone mirror from Peru, ca. 1200 - 1000 BC. It is 2-3/4” wide and is made from the characteristic highly polished black anthracite stone. In excellent condition, with expected signs of edge wear from usage. It is quite possible that this is a rare intact example from the late Wairajirca or Kotosh period of the Pre-Chavin Shillacoto. Cf. Seiichi Izumi "Bulletin No. 3", from Tokyo University, for similar examples from the Shillacoto site. Ex Tapia collection.
