Description
SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgerd II. (AD 438-457). AR Obol (0.48 gm; 14 mm). Uncertain mint. Struck circa AD 447-457. Bust right on floral ornament, wearing mural crown with korymbos set on crescent and inner ribbon / Fire altar with ribbons; flanked by two attendants, each holding a staff; no legend on left, wE on right. SNS type Ib1/2b (pl. 72, 21; Göbl type I/1; Paruck 340; Saeedi -; Sunrise 935var. (totally different reverse). Some chipping around the edge. Original find patina. Extremely rare. Not in Sunrise.
