Description

Germany, BREMEN or HAMBURG (?) Anonymous issue attributed to Archbishop Adalbert (1043–66), Silver penny / denar 1.01 gms; 19 mm. Head left with long cross before, cross of four pellets in front. Garbled legend / Keys on arc. Letters TE(ligate) R instead of wards. Garbled legend. Dbg 1777; Jesse 62; Kilger p. 182, group Brem D. Very Fine with a good portrait but flat in places, slightly crinkled, unusual variety and Rare This coin appears to be an imitation of Archbishop Eberhard of Trier (see previous lot). In contrast to published specimens the letters on the keys are not retrograde.
