Description

VESPASIAN. 69-79 AD. AR Denarius (18mm - 3.05 g). Rome mint. Struck 75 AD. IMP [CAESAR VES]PASIANVS AVG, laureate head right / PRIN[CEPS] IVVENTVT, Spes standing left, holding flower in right hand, raising hem of skirt with left. RIC II - (139 old edition); BMCRE pg. 63, 38; RSC 393. Good VF, toned, some light marks.

An interesting mule combining an obverse of Vespasian and a reverse of Domitian as Caesar (RIC II 788). The new RIC omits these as "plated hybrids' but this coin shows no signs of plating. There are a few small rough spots around the edge and there is no sign of a copper core of any kind.
