Lot 281: ANTIQUITIES, Moche Shamanic toad

A fine Moche zoomorphic effigy from Peru, ca. 400 – 700 AD. This nicely detailed example is 6-1/2” long, 5” high and depicts a toad covered with agricultural symbols. The legs are maize stalks, beans ring the spout and manioc tubers reach from the back toward the ground. The orange clay is accented with white stripes, which shows off good mineral deposits. Used to hold offerings in agricultural fertility rites. Ex Espinoza estate. Value Range: $400 - $600
