Description

A beautiful Nazca trophy heads vessel from Peru, c. 400 - 500 AD. This choice polychrome jar is 5-1/2" high and is decorated with two registers of trophy heads painted in profile and placed between spiked elements representing Killer Whale fins. The central band depicts atlatl darts. Vivid paint, strong mineral deposits. Cf. Proulx "Sourcebook of Nasca Iconography", page 106, for similar example. Ex Sarmiento collection.
