Description
Islands off Thrace, Thasos. Ca. 168/7-148 B.C. AR tetradrachm (35 mm, 16.95 g, 12 h). Head of young Dionysos right, wreathed with ivy / ΗΡΑΚΛΕΟVΣ ΣΩΤΗΡΟΣ ΘΑΣΙΩΝ, Herakles standing facing, head left, resting hand on grounded club and holding lion's skin draped over arm; ΔΙ monogram in inner left field. Le Rider 51; SNG Copenhagen 1038. Nicely centered and attractive style. Small flan flaw on cheek. Very fine.
