Description
Thessaly, Thessalian League. Mid-late 1st century B.C. AR stater (20 mm, 6.00 g, 12 h). Ptolemaios and Aristokles, magistrates. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; [ΠTOΛEMAIOY] (barley visible) to left / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; A-PIΣ/T-O/KΛ-H/Σ above spear and in inner left field.. McClean 4831 (same obv. die as 4832); cf. BCD 873.1 (spacing of legends). Toned, a few light scratches. Very fine.
