Description
Islands off Caria, Rhodes. Early-mid 1st century AD Æ drachm (37 mm, 28.37 g, 12 h). Teimostratos, magistrate. Radiate and wreathed head of Dionysos right / [T]AMIA TEIMOΣ[TPATOY] around, PO/ΔI/ΩN in right field, Nike advancing right, holding aphlaston and palm. Cf. R. Ashton, "Rhodian coinage in the early imperial period (CH 3: no. 82)," 110-2 (rev. legend across fields); RPC I 2749; SNG Copenhagen 887 (same dies). Light brown surfaces, reverse slightly double struck. Nearly very fine.
