TRAJAN. 98-117 AD. AR Denarius (18mm - 3.07 g). Rome mint. Struck 112-3 AD. IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, laureate bust right, slight drapery on left shoulder / S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI, VIA TRAIANA in exergue, female (Via Traiana) reclining left on rocks, head turned right, holding wheel set on lap with right hand, branch in left hand. RIC II 266; Woytek 398b; BMCRE 487; RSC 648; BN 671. Good VF, toned, light roughness, small flan crack.

Struck to mark the construction of the imperial roadway between Beneventum and Brundisium.
