Description

A rare Vicus double-chambered whistle bottle from Peru, c. 200 BC – 200 AD. It is 8” high and depicts a maternal figure mounted atop the front chamber. She is seated with legs crossed and is holding her infant on a small pallet, resting on her knees, most likely in preparation for burial. Both figures are nicely detailed and adorned with matching ear spools and incised coifs. Good mineral deposits, clear tone on the whistle. Ex Shaw collection. Value range: $450 - $750
