An exceptional Lambayeque stirrup vessel from the Huaca del Loro area of Peru, c. 700 – 1000 AD. This rare polychrome is decorated with two pairs of double-headed mythical creatures that communicate the male-female duality motif. The painting style is heavily influenced by Huari styles, showing that culture’s military expansion into the north. Overall in fine condition, with good mineral deposits. Ex Shaw collection.
