Description
Italy, Venice, Candia (Crete), Grimani, 10 gazzette, Emergency Issue minted under the decree of 14 January 1648. Lion of St Marc facing holding the Molino family coat-of-arms / Grimani family coat-of-arms, 5.71g. Paolucci 880. Very Fine for issue and very rare. Ex Dimitris Loulakakis collection. A coin struck during the time of the siege of Candia by the Ottomans which lasted for 21 years and is possibly one of the longest known sieges in history.
