Italy, Venice, Candia (Crete), Giovanni Corner, 1624-1630. 60 Tornesia. Lion of St. Mark standing left, head facing, resting paw on gospel / TOPNES// E?HNTA, rosette flanked by six pointed stars above, rosette below, 5.18g. Paolucci 892. Fine and a scarce variety. Ex Dimitris Loulakakis collection. The coins of Candia (Venetian Crete) are known to have varieties and errors. In this instance, the engraver must have run out of space thus cutting the denomination’s name short.
