Description
Eastern Europe, Imitating Thasos. Late 2nd-1st centuries B.C. AR tetradrachm (31 mm, 16.50 g, 11 h). Wreathed head of youthful Dionysos right / IΡΛΚΛΕΟΥΣ ΣΩΤΗΡΘ ΘΣΙΩH, Herakles standing facing, head left, holding grounded club, lion's skin draped over arm; in inner left field, M. Cf. Le Rider 51 for prototype. Nice barbarous style, a couple of marks in fields. Very fine.
