Description
Ionia, Ephesos. Ca. 133-67 B.C. AR cistophoric tetradrachm (24 mm, 12.52 g, 12 h). CY 49 (86/5 B.C.). Serpent emerging from cista mystica with lid ajar; all within ivy wreath / EΦE , bowcase between two coiled serpents; in upper left field, date (MΘ); above, Nike standing right, holding wreath; in right field, lighted race torch. Kleiner 50; Pinder 39-40; BMC 162; DCA 325. Very fine.
