Description

ROMAN EMPIRE. Uncertain. 2nd-3rd centuries AD. Æ (19.04 gm; 31 mm). Uncertain host coin. C/m: bust of Artemis right, bow and quiver over shoulder and star to right. Cf. Howgego 181. Howgego notes a countermark of Artemis (without star) on coins of Domitian from Laodicea in Syria, but although the undertype here is quite worn, what remains of the portrait suggests it is a coin of either Antoninus Pius or Septimius Severus. Nice brown reddish patina.
