He subsequently studied in Paris under the French numismatists Charles Picard and Louis Robert. In 1951 he became a professor of Greek archaeology and art history at University of Liège, where he remained until his retirement in 1980. He also served as vice president of the Société royale de Numismatique de Belgique from 1961 to 1967.
