SICILY; Syracuse. 474-470 BC. AR Tetrdrachm (17.12 gm; 24 mm). Charioteer driving quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses / S?????S??? Diademed head of Arethusa right; four dolphins swimming clockwise around. Boehringer 328(obv.162/rev. 229)- citing 13 specimens from this die combination including SNG ANS 105; Cambridge (Grose/McClean ) 2617 and pl. 91,2 and BMC (Sicily) p. 151.43.. Wonderful strike in high relief. Great metal. Fully centered. Choice Superb EF. Lovely example of this type. Nice original patina. Comes with David Sear's Certificate of Authenticity.
