Description
Asia Minor, Uncertain mint. Augustus. 27 B.C.-A.D. 14 Æ as (24 mm, 9.93 g). Brockage strike. Ca. 25 B.C. CAESAR, bare head of Augustus right / Incuse of obverse. RPC 2235; C. Howgego, "Coinage and Military Finance: the Imperial Bronze Coinage of the Augustan East," NC 1982, Class 2c; RIC 486 (Ephesus?). Brown patina. Fine.
Denarii brockages are fairly common, but heavier asses and dupondii were less likely to stick to the dies, and therefore less likely to result in brockage strikes.
