Description

An excellent Kushan sculpture, c. 1st – 3rd century AD. This highly unusual example is 5-3/8” high and portrays a scene from ancient mythology. The larger figure is standing on two legs and is supporting a large basket of fruit in the palm of the hand. There appears to be a monkey clutching the front of the figure, with the monkey’s head obscuring the face and the tail of a large serpent protrudes from in between the legs and coils along the base. Much of the white dressing remains intact. Ex Stuart Bart estate. Value range: $250 - $400
