Description

A Mycenaean three-handled pithos, c. 1300 - 1200 BC, the body decorated in dark brown with concentric bands around the foot and lower body, a frieze of spirals around the shoulder. H: 4 ¾” (12.1 cm). Small area of old restoration on rim, some loss of design. 19th Century collection note “Cyprus” written on side. Cf. Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum: London, British Museum 5, II.IA.3-IL.IA.4, pl. 285, no. 16. Ex Dr. Gilles collection, Germany, acquired in the 1960’s. Value Range $700 - $800.
