M. Aquillius M.f. 65 B.C. AR denarius (20 mm, 3.73 g, 6 h). Rome. [III VIR] behind, VIRTVS before, helmeted and draped bust of Virtus right / (MN) AQVIL (MN) · F (MN) N, SICIL in exergue, the consul Man. Aquillius standing left, head right, raising a prostrate Sicilia before him, and holding shield. Crawford 401/1; Sydenham 798; Aquillia 2. Light toning, minor porosity on reverse. Good very fine.

The types on this denarius recall the virtue of the moneyer's grandfather, Manius Aquillius, who diligently quelled the slave revolt in Sicily (104-101 B.C.) that had defied three earlier governors.
