Description
Antoninus Pius. A.D. 138-161. Æ sestertius (31 mm, 23.71 g, 1 h). Rome, A.D. 147/8. ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P XI, laureate bust of Antoninus Pius right, slight drapery on far shoulder / ANNO-NA AVG around, [C]OS IIII in exergue, S C across field, Annona standing facing, head left, holding grain ear over modius and anchor. Cf. RIC 840 (no drapery); cf. BMC 1807-11 (same); cf. Cohen 39 (same). Unrecorded variant with slight drapery on Pius' shoulder. Brown patina, light porosity. Nearly very fine.
