FIJI: 1942 George VI, Silver (.900) 6 Pence, 19.5mm, 2.8g, KM 11a. Obverse: Metcalfe bust of King George VI facing left; GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR. Engraver: Percy Metcalfe.Reverse: Turtle surrounded by legend and date. Because of World War II, many of the mints of Europe could not produce and distribute coins for their distant colonies. This coin was struck at San Francisco instead of the British Royal Mint, so it bears the mint-mark ""S"" below the ""year"" in the date; FIJI 19 42 S SIXPENCE. VF.
