Description
Phoenicia, Marathos. Ca. 226/5-187/6 B.C. AR hemidrachm (13 mm, 1.87 g, 11 h). CY 73 (187/6 B.C.). Veiled and draped bust of Astarte right / ΜΑΡΑΘΗΝΩ[Ν], Marathos standing facing, head left, holding aphlaston and leaning on column; in left field, Phoenician date. Cf. Duyrat 76 = de Luynes 3167 (same year but different dies); HGC 10, 190; DCA 826. Extremely rare - the fifth known hemidrachm of Marathos, and one of only two known of this year. Lightly toned, porous. Very fine.
