Description
Indo-Scythian Kingdom. Azes. Ca. 58-12 B.C. AR tetradrachm (25 mm, 9.52 g, 11 h). Uncertain Mint in Western Gandhara. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩN MEΓAΛOY AZOY, king on horseback right, holding whip(?); in right field, Kharoshthi letter / Athena standing right, making benediction gesture, holding shield and carrying spear over shoulder; in left field, Φ above Greek monogram; in right field, Kharoshthi monogram. Cf. Senior 98 (obverse letter); HGC 12, 637. Reddish toning. Extremely fine.
