Description
Parthian Kingdom. Vardanes I. Ca. A.D. 38-46. AR tetradrachm (25 mm, 14.03 g, 12 h). Seleukeia on the Tigris, S.E. 356 (A.D.44/5). Diademed bust of Vardanes I left, wearing spiral torc / [BACIΛEωC/BACIΛEωN/AP]CAK[OV]/EVEPΓET[OV]/ΔIKAIO[V/E]ΠΙΦANO[VC/ΦIΛEΛΛHNOC], king enthroned right, receiving palm branch from Tyche standing left, holding cornucopiae; above, year (CNT); in exergue, month (off flan). Cf. Sellwood 64.28-30 ; Shore 352 . Light graffiti on obverse. Toned. Very fine.
