Description
Parthian Kingdom. Gotarzes II. A.D. 40-51. AR tetradrachm (26 mm, 14.41 g, 12 h). Seleukeia on the Tigris, S.E. 362 (A.D. 50/1). Diademed bust of Gotarzes II left, wearing spiral torc / [BACIΛEωC]/BACIΛEωN/APCA[KOV]/EVEPΓET[OV]/ΔIKAIOV/EΠΙΦAN[OVC/ΦIΛEΛΛHNOC], king enthroned right, receiving wreath from Tyche standing left, holding cornucopiae; above, year (BΞT); in exergue, month (off flan). Cf. Sellwood 65.28-32; Shore 363. Light toning. Choice very fine.
