Moesia Inferior, Marcianopolis. Commodus. A.D. 177-192. Æ (28 mm, 14.47 g, 7 h). Caeclius Maternus, governor. AY KAI Λ AY KOMOΔOC, bare-headed and cuirassed half-length bust of Commodus right, breastplate adorned with helmeted bust of Athena / HΓ KAIK MATЄRNOY MA-PKIANOΠOΛЄIT-ΩN, Zeus standing facing, head left, holding thunderbolt and scepter; at his feet to left, eagle standing left, head right. Cf. Hristova & Jekov 6.10.1.2 (same obv. die; no legend breaks on rev.); AMNG I -; Varbanov 698 (same obv. die as illus.). Neat bust type. Glossy green patina, light porosity. Choice very fine.
Hristova and Jekov do not record this legend break of MAPKIANOΠOΛЄITΩN.
