Moesia Inferior, Marcianopolis. Septimius Severus. A.D. 193-211. Æ (26 mm, 10.33 g, 8 h). A.D. 201/2. Aurelius Gallus, consular legate. [AV K Λ CEΠ] CEVHPOC Π, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus right / [V AV] ΓAΛΛOV MA-PKIANOΠOΛIT-[ΩN], Tyche standing left, holding rudder a cornucopiae. Cf. Hristova & Jekov 6.14.38.7 corr. (same obv. die; obv. legend); cf. AMNG I 559 (legends); cf. Varbanov 747-8 (same). Black patina with green and brown tinges, rough spot in reverse field. Good very fine.
Hristova & Jekov do not record this legend break of MAPKIANOΠOΛITΩN. Additionally, while this coin shares the same obverse die as the example illustrated as no. 6.14.38.7, Hristova & Jekov give an incomplete obverse legend, which the present coin makes clear.
