Q. Caecilius Metellus. 130 B.C. Æ quadrans (15 mm, 2.49 g, 10 h). Rome. Head of Hercules right, wearing lion's skin headdress; behind, three pellets / Q (ME)(TE) above, [ROMA] in exergue, prow of galley right; before, three pellets. Crawford 256/4a; Sydenham 510b; BMCRR 1061. Black patina with light deposits. Fine.

A duplicate from the RBW Collection of Roman Republican Coins. Purchased privately from Chris Blom, December 1980.

Although Crawford notes several different legend variations of the moneyer's name, he does not note this specific variety. Sydenham, however, does mention it.
