Lucius Verus. A.D. 161-169. Æ medallion (35 mm, 33.07 g, 6 h). Paduan, after Giovanni Cavino, 1500-1570. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Lucius Verus right / IOVI CONSER-VATORI around, TR P VII IMP IIII/COSIII P P in two lines in exergue, Jupiter, leaning on scepter, seated slightly right on the seven hills of Rome; at right, emperor standing left, presenting Victory to Jupiter, and being crowned by Virtus standing left behind him. Cf. Klawans 1 (same dies, but with legend added to reverse). Later aftercast. Olive greenish-brown patina. Very fine.
This type closely copies a medallion of Lucius Verus, but depicts the bust of Lucius Verus to right instead of to the left. The original Cavino lacks the legend IOVI CONSERVATORI on the reverse.
