Description
German States, Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover. Georg III. 176[...]-IWS. AR thaler (40 mm, 28.97 g). Crowned quartered arms / St. Andrew with cross. Davenport 2104; KM 343. Nicely toned, a few random scratches in obverse fields. Nice extremely fine.
The last digit of the date has been completely erased from the die. Perhaps the intention was to re-engrave the last number thereby permitting the reuse an older die. Although the die was definitely reused, it appears however that an unobservant mint worker forgot to re-engrave the final number in the date!
