Description
Roman. Late 1st century A.D. Lead sling bullet. 38 mm length, 53.40 g. Elliptical shaped and inscribed CN MAG (Gnaeus Pompey - either Pompey the Great, or his son Gnaeus Pompey). Perhaps a bullet from a peltast in the Pompeian legions stationed in Spain (there were a hoard of these about 20+ years ago that were marketed as coming from the site of the Battle of Munda in Spain). Whitish-gray patina. Clear legend and no damage. Very fine.
